A person who clears a driving test will first be issued a temporary licence, as per the new traffic regulations. It will be renewed once. The licence can be cancelled if traffic violations exceed 12 points during the “licence period” and 10 points during the “renewal period”. The Royal Oman Police (ROP) will explain on Monday the amendments made to the Traffic Law issued in 2016. Recently, the ROP announced that from January 2019, men could take driving lessons on cars with automatic transmission, a facility that is now limited only to women. “The decision was taken in response to demands from teachers, drivers and members of the community,” said Brigadier Engineer Mohammed bin Awad al Rawas, Director-General of Traffic, ROP.
